Tuesday and Wednesday: Rookies and Leaders only;Thursday and Friday: ALL Band

Rules of Band Camp:

#1 LUNCH no one is allowed off campus for lunch so bring a sack lunch and LOTS of water

#2 Weather appropriate clothing AND suncreen

#3 Athletic Shoes

#4 Instrument - if you are renting/needing a marching instrument, we will address at mini camp

#5 WATER

#6 Hat

#7 SUNCREEN

#8 Sunglasses

Mini camp is NO commitment. We will hand out paperwork next week if you are ready to join!

Band 101: Parent Information 2025 

Marching Band Competitions: 

Marching Band students (The Spartan Legion) perform a show with drill that Ms. Civelli has chosen for the marching band season. Students practice the songs, learn drill dots and placement during marching band camp. The Spartan Legion competes against other 5A schools in the State of Colorado. Competitions are mostly on Saturdays in September through the end of October from early morning until the afternoon/evening. Itineraries will be posted before the day of competition.  

● Food Committee coordinates and feeds students for lunch during competitions. Food donations can be made in BoosterHub ($15 per student for each competition is suggested).

● Pit Crew helps students push instruments, props and drum major stands on and off of the field.

● Stand Coordinators/ Cheerleaders  

o Parent to coordinate adults attending, sit together in stands  

● Transportation/Truck Driver – rents truck – picks up truck brings it to DHS for loading instruments (early arriver!) and unloading after competitions, drops off truck  

● Communications - Information and itineraries are provided prior to competitions (Ms. Civelli prepares, Coordinators send out via email, BAND app, BoosterHub & Facebook)

Football games  

● Call time: Ms. C will put out call times for students to be at Garry Berry Stadium. No buses provided – carpool or drive.  

● Marching band performs halftime show

● Marching band plays pep band music in stands for entire game (sun, rain or snow) 

● Volunteers needed for pit crew – help push instruments, props, color guard - flags, etc., drum major stands onto field at halftime show  

● Transportation/Trucks –– rents trucks – picks up truck, brings it to DHS for loading instruments and unloading after game, drops off truck  

Fundraisers  

Why do we need fundraisers? The band program is self-funded!  

● Vibes Baseball concession stand (students & parents – available for entire band program)  

o $40 banked per shift by student and/or parent and/or friend or relative, per game.

o Vibes pays Doherty two times in a season, Vibes coordinator designates into students’ accounts

o Monies roll over to the next year, if student graduates, the monies can be rolled over to a sibling in Band. If there are funds left in a student account after graduation and Ms. C does not hear anything from the student, money goes to the D.I.M.E. general account after one year.

o Vibes funds can be used for:  

▪Shoes (can use marching band shoes for concerts)  

▪ End of Year Banquet tickets (student & parents)  

▪ Rental fee for instruments (from Doherty)  

▪ Future away trips  

● March-a-Thon (helps pay for staff and section coaches) 

● Craft Fair – 1st weekend in December each year LARGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR! (entire band program participates)  

o All hands-on deck – parents and students and is held at the school

o Friday late day & evening set up  

o Saturday and Sunday craft fair  

o Concession stand in cafeteria / kitchen – sell food & snacks (parents donate food)  

o Bake sale – parents bring baked goods  

o On site silent auction  

o Pictures with Santa  

● Monthly Food Fundraisers – eat or pick up to go at local restaurants, % of profits made go into general band account.
